1. MERCHANDISING & PERSONALIZATION: A NEW LEVEL OF AGILITY
Shopify Plus takes merchandising and personalization to new levels, allowing enterprise merchants to leverage up to 2000 variants, solving many issues with managing complex catalogs. The update will be progressively released throughout 2024.
Without a unique selling proposition, you won’t stand out from the crowd. Businesses need the ability to curate their catalogs and structure parent/child relationships in line with other integrated systems. However, if that comes at the expense of a suboptimal user experience, revenue will likely suffer – and so will your users. Combine Listings is the answer to your problems – you will be able to offer a tailored journey by presenting each variation with its own description, media gallery, and URL (exclusive to Shopify Plus).
Additionally, Shopify Editions Winter emphasized personalization, introducing new features at no extra cost, such as Bundles, Shoppable Videos, and 3D Product Models. These features not only simplify catalog management but also enable offering a personalized experience to customers, standing out from the competition.
Finally, the new updated taxonomy (Shopify Standard Product Taxonomy v0.0.1) associates each standard product category with a rich set of associated attributes, simplifying product creation, classification, and organization, along with the automatic generation of variants.
2. AI ISN'T A PASSING TREND
Artificial Intelligence is a long-term reality, and Shopify is at the forefront of e-commerce platforms. Semantic Search is now available to all Shopify Plus merchants in the English language, radically transforming searches with an improved user experience.
Shopify Magic has expanded its content creation capabilities and now allows creating professional product photographs with AI-enabled image editing features, without the need for design skills.
3. SIMPLIFIED SHIPPING AND ORDER MANAGEMENT
The new edition introduced automatic address validation and granular inventory allocation per shipping zone. Furthermore, post-purchase management has been extended with the much-anticipated product exchange management, allowing for easy creation, tracking, and management of exchanges for any order directly from the store admin.
4. THE NEW ONE-PAGE CHECKOUT
Not exactly a new feature, but a focus for Shopify brands. The new Shopify Checkout ensures speed, advanced security, and an improved user experience, increasing conversions. Checkout Extensibility now includes 14 new APIs and UI components, supported on Thank You and Order Status pages.
Customers can also save payment methods to speed up the process, enhancing overall satisfaction and the likelihood of repeat purchases.
5. FOCUS ON B2B
Shopify's B2B offering has been enhanced to meet the needs of enterprise merchants. The new B2B order permissions system allows sales representatives to place orders and view customer information only for their own accounts.
Additionally, Plus merchants can record partial payments made off-platform and create promotional discounts exclusively for B2B customers using third-party or custom apps powered by Shopify Functions.
6. DEVELOPMENT: THEME BLOCKS
New theme blocks in preview for developers allow defining blocks once and reusing them, offering greater control over design. The ability to nest blocks for more design customization, along with ready-to-use theme block presets, simplifies the design process.
7. CUSTOMER ACCOUNTS [ANNOUNCED]
Customer Account Extensibility is now in developer preview, allowing integration of extensions directly into new customer accounts with the same UI components as Shopify Checkout, along with new components, extension APIs, and external network calls.
In summary, this was a promising edition, one of the best so far! Shopify continues to empower merchants with the tools they need to excel in the competitive e-commerce world.
